# Job interview questions in Nigeria: how to prepare

Where to start

Interview formats vary by employer. Some use a short phone screening; others use a practical exercise, panel interview or competency questions. The safest preparation is to reread the vacancy and prepare evidence for each major duty. The UN Careers application guidance includes interview and assessment information for UN applicants; private employers and public institutions set their own processes.

Questions worth practising

“Tell us about yourself.” Give a brief work summary: what you have done, the relevant skill you bring and why this role fits your next step. Avoid reciting your entire CV.

“Describe a problem you solved.” Name the situation, your responsibility, the action you took and the result. A small, verifiable example is stronger than a dramatic invented one. If you worked in a team, identify your own contribution.

“How would you handle a difficult customer or deadline?” Explain the first action you would take, how you would communicate and when you would escalate. Tie the answer to the job's real duties.

“What do you know about us?” Read the employer's official site and the exact vacancy. Mention its work, not a slogan copied from a search result.

Prepare your own questions about reporting lines, training, working location and the next stage. If the role requires a licence or certificate, have the original and a copy ready only if the official invitation asks for them. For public recruitment, check the institution's notice for tests or document checks before travelling.

An interview invitation should identify the employer and process. The UN says it never requests recruitment payment; verify any demand for a “processing fee” through official channels. After the interview, record the questions you struggled with so the next preparation round is more useful.
